368 – Bint Zuʿbal, Umm al-Khayr Fāṭimah bint ʿAlī ibn Muẓaffar
The venerable shaykha, learned scholar, Qurʾān teacher, righteous and long-lived servant of Allah, and the senior hadith transmitter of Nishapur: Umm al-Khayr Fāṭimah bint ʿAlī ibn Muẓaffar ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Zuʿbal ibn ʿAjlān, originally from Baghdad and later a resident of Nishapur.
She was born in 435 AH.
She studied under Abū al-Ḥusayn ʿAbd al-Ghāfir al-Fārisī and was the last person to transmit from him.
Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī said: “She was a righteous, knowledgeable woman who taught the young girls the Qurʾān. From ʿAbd al-Ghāfir she heard the entire Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, al-Khaṭṭābī’s Gharīb al-Ḥadīth, and other works.”
I say: Those who narrated from her include Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī, Abū al-Qāsim Ibn ʿAsākir, al-Muʾayyad ibn Muḥammad, Zaynab al-Shaʿriyyah, and a number of others.
She died in the early days of Muḥarram, 532 AH; another report states that she passed away in 533 AH.
