- Ṣāʿid ibn Sayyār ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ishāqī
The ḥadith scholar and ḥāfiẓ, Abū al-ʿAlāʾ (1) al-Ishāqī, al-Harawī, known as al-Dahhān.
He performed the pilgrimage and, while in Baghdad, related traditions from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī ʿĀṣim, Abū ʿĀmir al-Azdi, Shaykh al-Islām Abū Ismāʿīl, ʿAlī ibn Faḍāl the grammarian, and a number of others.
Ibn Nāṣir read to him the Jāmiʿ of Abū ʿĪsā, and Abū al-Faraj ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn Kulayb and others heard that recitation from him.
Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī (2) said: “He was a meticulous ḥāfiẓ with an extensive repertoire of transmissions. He wrote voluminously, compiled topical collections, and was skilled in identifying narrators. Ibn Nāṣir, Abū al-ʿAlāʾ Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Faḍl, and Abū al-Muʿammar al-Anṣārī reported to us from him.”
I (the author) add: The ḥāfiẓ Abū Mūsā al-Madīnī also narrated from him. He died in the village of Ghuraj (3) near Herat, in Dhū al-Qaʿda of the year 520 AH, at middle age. May Allah have mercy on him.
