Among those who transmitted from him were al-Silafī, Abū Mūsā al-Madanī, Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl al-Tarsūsī, Masʿūd ibn Abī Manṣūr al-Jammāl, Masʿūd ibn Maḥmūd al-ʿIjlī, and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Abī al-Muṭahhar al-Saydalānī.
Abū Saʿd al-Samʿānī said: “He granted me an authorization; he was extraordinarily prolific and lived to an advanced age. His father ranked among the distinguished men of letters, and ʿAbd al-Ṣamad himself belonged to the extremist wing of the ʿAbd al-Raḥmāniyya (1). Among the works he related with a lofty isnād is The Virtues of the Qur’an by Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAmr al-Bajalī (2).”
I add: He passed away in Dhū al-Ḥijjah, 517 AH.
Yahyā ibn Abī Manṣūr, the jurist, informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Ghanī likewise related to us in 608 AH (ḥāʾ).
Ahmad ibn Muḥammad and Isḥāq ibn Yaḥyā also informed us, saying: Yūsuf ibn Khalīl informed us, saying: Masʿūd al-Jammāl informed us—and Ibn ʿAbd al-Ghanī added: Masʿūd ibn Maḥmūd ibn Khalaf and ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Abī al-Muṭahhar likewise informed us—saying:
ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn Aḥmad related to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn related to us in 432 AH; Sulaymān ibn Aḥmad related to us; Yūsuf ibn Yazīd related to us; Asad ibn Mūsā related to us; Isrāʾīl related to us from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr, who said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘The lightest punishment suffered by any inhabitant of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection will be a man under whose soles are two smouldering embers from which his brain will boil, just as a cauldron or kettle boils.’”
The same wording was also transmitted by Shuʿbah and al-Aʿmash from Abū Isḥāq.
