(2) Bishr b. Musa al-Asadi is reliable and a memoriser; see Siyar, vol. 13, no. 170. Huwadha is Huwadha b. Khalifa al-Thaqafi al-Bakrawi, trustworthy (saduq). ‘Awf is ‘Awf b. Abi Jamila al-A‘rabi, from whom all six canonical compilers narrate. Sa‘id b. Abi al-Hasan, the brother of al-Hasan al-Basri, is likewise reliable and reported by the six. Ahmad, 1/360, records the report through two chains via ‘Awf with this isnad. Muslim, no. 2110, transmits it through Nasr b. ‘Ali al-Jahdami, from ‘Abd al-A‘la b. ‘Abd al-A‘la, from Yahya b. Abi Ishaq, from Sa‘id b. Abi al-Hasan, from Ibn ‘Abbas. Al-Bukhari, no. 2225, relates it by way of ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Abd al-Wahhab—“Yazid b. Zuray‘ informed us; ‘Awf conveyed it to us.” Their wording includes: “The man arched his back violently and his face turned pale. Ibn ‘Abbas said, ‘Woe to you! If you insist on doing it, then use this tree and anything that has no soul.’” Al-Bukhari also places it under Dress (no. 5963); Muslim, 2110/100, under Dress and Adornment; al-Nasa’i, 8/215; and Ahmad, 1/241, through Sa‘id b. Abi ‘Aruba, from al-Nadr b. Anas b. Malik, from Ibn ‘Abbas.
