…his audition was famous and eagerly sought by students from every region. Leading scholars and prominent figures received hadith from him. Al-Hafiz al-Hasan al-Samarqandi recited Sahih Muslim to him a little over thirty times, and Abu Sa id al-Bahiri did so more than twenty times. Among the renowned scholars who likewise read the book to him were Zayn al-Islam Abu al-Qasim al-Qushayri, al-Wahidi and others. He lived to the age of ninety-five and died in 448 AH/1056–57 CE. This Abu al-Hasan transmitted Sahih Muslim from the righteous ascetic shaykh Isa b. Muhammad b. Abd al-Rahman al-Juludi, who took it from the jurist-ascetic and mujtahid Abu Ishaq Ibrahim b. Muhammad b. Sufyan al-Naysaburi, who had received it from Imam Muslim b. al-Hajjaj al-Qushayri himself. In the introduction to his commentary on Sahih Muslim (1/6, 10), Imam al-Nawawi reproduces the isnad linking Abu al-Hasan to Imam Muslim as follows: “Abu Ishaq Ibrahim b. Abi Hafs Umar b. Mudhar al-Wasiti – the trustworthy, upright, and commendable shaykh – related to us in the Great Mosque of Damascus (may God safeguard it and all Muslim lands and peoples). He said: The imam of many kunyas, Abu al-Qasim, Abu Bakr, Abu al-Fath Mansur b. Abd al-Mun im al-Farawi, informed us, saying: The imam, the jurist of the Two Sanctuaries, my grandfather Abu Abd Allah Muhammad b. al-Fadl al-Farawi, informed us, saying: Abu al-Husayn Abd al-Ghafir al-Farisi informed us, saying: Abu Ahmad Muhammad b. Isa al-Juludi informed us, saying: The jurist Abu Ishaq Ibrahim b. Muhammad b.
