a wave of persecution; and when the pressure on Ibn Ḥazm intensified, al-Humaydī departed for the eastern lands (1).
Al-Humaydī passed away on the seventeenth of Dhu’l-Ḥijjah in the year 488 AH, at a little over sixty years of age, perhaps more. Abū Bakr al-Shāshī led the funeral prayer over him. He was first buried in the cemetery of Bāb Abrāz, but two years later they moved him to the cemetery of Bāb Ḥarb, where he was laid to rest beside Bishr al-Ḥāfī.
The ḥadith scholar Ibn ʿAsākir said: Al-Humaydī had instructed the eminent Muẓaffar ibn Raʾīs al-Ruʾasāʾ to bury him next to Bishr, but he ignored the request. Some time afterwards he saw al-Humaydī in a dream reproaching him, so he transferred the body in Ṣafar of the year 491 AH. The shroud was still fresh, his body supple, and a sweet fragrance was wafting from him—may Allah have mercy on him—and he endowed his books as a charitable trust (2).

ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Ṣuhayb narrated to us, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said:
The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Take the pre-dawn meal, for there is blessing in suḥūr.”
Ibn Mājah recorded it as well (3) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Zayd, and it is singular through
