Among those who narrated from him were Abū al-Ḥusayn ibn al-Ṭuyūrī, Ismāʿīl ibn al-Samarqandī, Muḥammad ibn Bunaymān (1) al-Hamadhānī, Abū Zurʿah al-Maqdisī, and others; he likewise granted authorization to Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī.
Shīrawayh said: “I heard from him. He was truthful, precise, and virtuous, a man of dignity and reputation, with elegant script and pleasant speech. In the last part of his life he lost his sight and became deaf. The auditions taken from him by the earlier scholars are the soundest, down to the year a little past eighty (2). He died in Jumādā al-Ākhirah, 490 AH, and I performed his ritual washing (3).”
Ibn Ṭāhir said: “I entered Hamadhān after returning from Rayy with my children, and I had heard that ʿAbdūs transmitted Sunan al-Nasāʾī, so I went to him. He brought out the book for me, and attached to it was a fresh audition record in his own hand, yet I did not read it at that time. After a while I set out with my son Abū Zurʿah to al-Dūnī (4), and there I read the book to him (5).”
