I asked Ismaʿil al-Taymi about him, and he replied, “An ascetic imam.”
Ibn Abi Jaʿfar said: Abu Ismaʿil al-Ansari told me, “Take good care of Shaykh al-ʿUmayri and write down what you hear from him, for he is precise.” He said this despite the coolness that existed between them.
He died in Muharram of the year 489 AH.
39 – al-Sallār, Abu al-Hasan Makki ibn Mansur ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAllan*
The venerable shaykh, the leading authority, the musnid, the long-lived scholar—Sallār of al-Karaj (1), Abu al-Hasan Makki ibn Mansur ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAllan al-Karaji, a source whose narrations were trusted.
He was born in 397 AH—or, according to another report, 399 AH.
In Baghdad he heard hadith from Abu al-Husayn ibn Bishran, Abu al-Qasim al-Lalakāʾi, and a number of others.
In Nishapur he studied under the qadi Abu Bakr al-Hiri, Abu Saʿid al-Sayrafi, and Muhammad ibn al-Qasim al-Farisi.
