248 – al-Simsār, Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī
The shaykh, reliable authority, and centenarian, Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī (6) al-Iṣbahānī—nicknamed al-Simsār—was a close companion of Ibrāhīm (7) ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khurshīdh Qūlah.
He heard hadith from that Ibrāhīm, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar, from Abū al-Faḍl ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Tamīmī, and from others.
Those who transmitted from him include Abū Saʿd ibn al-Baghdādī, Masʿūd al-Thaqafī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Rustumī the jurist, and others.
Al-Samʿānī says: “I asked Abū Saʿd al-Baghdādī about him; he praised him and remarked, ‘He was among the exceptionally long-lived. I heard him say, “I was born in the year 375 AH and lived one hundred years.”’”
Al-Simsār died in the middle of Shawwāl, 475 AH.
He had the chance to listen to Abū Bakr ibn al-Muqriʾ, but the opportunity never materialized.
