Kaʿb, a woman renowned for her remarkable beauty. Aishah visited her and said, “Are you not ashamed to marry the man who killed your father?” The girl thereupon sought refuge from him, and so he divorced her. Her people then came and pleaded, “Messenger of Allah ﷺ, she is young and lacks judgment—she was misled. Please take her back.” He refused. They asked his permission to marry her to someone else, and he granted it. Her father had been killed by Khalid on the day of the Conquest.
This report is unsound, just like the one that preceded it.
Even weaker than both is what al-Waqidi related—from ʿAbd al-Aziz al-Jandʿi, from his father, from ʿAtaʾ al-Jandʿi—who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Malikah bint Kaʿb al-Laythi in Ramadan of the year 8 AH, consummated the marriage with her, and she died while with him.” Al-Waqidi remarked, “Our colleagues reject this.”
ʿUqayl transmitted from al-Zuhri that the Prophet ﷺ married a woman from Banu Kilab and later separated from her. Ahmad ibn Abi Khaythamah said: According to what has reached me, she was al-ʿAliyah bint Zubyan.
Hisham ibn al-Kalbi said: “He married al-ʿAliyah bint Zubyan, stayed with her for a time, and then divorced her”—this, he added, was told to him by a man from Banu Kilab.
Al-Mufaddal al-Ghallabi, citing ʿAli ibn Salih from ʿAli ibn Mujahid, reported: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ contracted marriage with Khawlah bint Huthayl al-Thaʿlabiyyah. She was brought to him from Syria but died on the way. He then married her maternal aunt Sharaf bint Fadalah, and she too died on the journey.”
It is also related from Sahl ibn Zayd al-Ansari that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married a woman from Banu Ghifar. When he entered upon her he noticed white patches of vitiligo, whereupon he said, “Return to your family,” yet he allowed her to keep her full dowry.
