He died on his return from the pilgrimage in 465 AH. The last person to transmit from him was Abū al-Asʿad ibn al-Qushayrī. In my Tadhkira I have cited one of his hadiths (1), and when he made the pilgrimage he was heard by al-Humaydī, Ibn al-Khāḍiba, and Shujāʿ al-Dhuhlī. Hibat Allah al-Saqaṭī said: “He authored a History, biographical works, Musnads, and Maʿājim.” He also compiled a book on the two Ṣaḥīḥs. It is said that he was born in 409 AH.
214 – Ibn al-Bisṭāmī, ʿUmar b. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn *
The shaykh, Abū al-Maʿālī ʿUmar, son of the judge Abū ʿUmar Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bisṭāmī, later of Nīshāpūr, nicknamed al-Muʾayyad, and the maternal grandson of the imam Abū al-Ṭayyib al-Ṣuʿlūkī (2).
He heard from Abū al-Ḥusayn al-Khaffāf and Abū al-Ḥasan al-ʿAlawī, and he dictated a number of sessions. Those who narrated from him include his grandson Hibat Allah b. Sahl al-Sayyidī, Zāhir and Wajīh—the two sons of al-Shahhāmī—and others.
He died in 465 AH.
