Aḥmad ibn Sinān narrated to us; Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Sarjis, who said:
“I saw al-Aṣlaʿ—that is, ʿUmar—kissing the Stone while saying: ‘Indeed I am kissing you, even though I know full well that you are only a stone that can neither harm nor benefit. Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you.’”
Al-Bukhārī also transmitted this report on the authority of Aḥmad ibn Sinān, but through the chain of Yazīd ibn Hārūn, from Warqāʾ, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from ʿUmar (1).

The ḥāfiẓ and jurist, Abū Bakr al-Dīnawarī.
He heard from ʿAbd al-Ghanī ibn Saʿīd, Khalaf ibn Muḥammad al-Wāsiṭī, Ṣadaqah ibn al-Dalam, Abū Muḥammad ibn Abī Naṣr, and a number of others.
He wrote out a large body of material and followed the school of Sufyān al-Thawrī.
Among those who narrated from him were ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Kattānī, Abū Ṭāhir al-Ḥinnāʾī, Ghayth ibn ʿAlī al-Armanāzī, and others.
Al-Amīn ibn al-Akfānī said: “He had a fine aptitude for the evaluation of transmitters. He related only a small amount, served as qāḍī of Damīrah (2), and later declined to dictate hadith. Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb had asked permission to hear from him, but he refused.”
