and ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Anmāṭī, Aḥmad ibn al-Ṭalāyah the ascetic, and others.
ʿAbd al-Wahhāb said, “He is reliable.” (1)
I say: He was born in the year 388 AH, and he died in Rajab of 471 AH.
A number of his higher (i.e., shorter) chains of transmission have reached us.
Ahmad ibn Isḥāq informed us; al-Mubārak ibn Abī al-Jūd informed us; Aḥmad ibn Abī Ghālib the ascetic informed us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAlī informed us in the year 466 AH; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Dhahabī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us; Ibn Abī Fudayk narrated to us; Ibn Abī Dhiʾb informed me, from Shuraḥbīl, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī:
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “For a man to give a single dirham in charity during his lifetime is better than his giving one hundred dinars when death overtakes him.” (2)
Those who died in the same year included: the ruler of Damascus Atisz al-Khwārazmī (3); Abū ʿAlī ibn al-Bannāʾ (4); Abū ʿAlī al-Wakhshī (5); Saʿd ibn ʿAlī az-Zanjānī (6); ʿAbd al-Bāqī ibn Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAṭṭār, the agent (7); the master grammarian ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī (8); and Abū ʿĀṣim.
