From him narrated: Abū Naṣr ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn al-Jabbān al-Murrī—one of his own teachers—ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥinnāʾī, the jurist Naṣr ibn Ibrāhīm al-Maqdisī, Musharraf ibn ʿAlī, ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Farrāʾ, Jamīl ibn Yūsuf, Abū ʿAbd Allah Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Rāzī, and several others.
He was born in the year 382 AH.
His most senior teacher was Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Yazdād, a companion of Ibn Abī Ḥātim.
Al-Rāzī says in his work Mashyakha: “Abū Zakariyyā entered the lands of the Maghrib and al-Andalus and wrote down ḥadith there. He had an abundance of teachers, was among the firmly reliable ḥuffāẓ, and he died in 461 AH.”(1)
Ibn Ṭāhir relates: “Saʿd al-Zanjānī told us that no one transmitted the book Mushtabih al-Nisba from its author ʿAbd al-Ghanī except his grandson through his daughter, ʿAlī ibn Baqāʾ, and Ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm al-Bukhārī, who narrated it.”
There is room for discussion about al-Zanjānī’s statement, for Rashāʾ ibn Naẓīf also transmitted the work, and both he and ʿAbd al-Raḥīm are trustworthy. Allah knows best.
