Ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Wakīʿ narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Fasting is a shield.”
Muslim also recorded it (1) through the route of Abū Saʿīd al-Ashajj, from Wakīʿ.
With this same chain Ibn Ḥazm said: Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Jasūrī (2) narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dulaym narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Waḍḍāḥ narrated to us; Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us; Ḥumayd informed us, from Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered into iḥrām for Hajj, and we entered with him. When he arrived he said, ‘Whoever is not bringing a sacrificial animal should come out of iḥrām.’ So the people came out of iḥrām, all except those who had a sacrificial animal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a sacrificial animal with him, so he did not come out of iḥrām (3).”
And with this chain Ibn Ḥazm said: Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-ʿUdhri narrated to me; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAqāl (4) narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Saqaṭī narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar ibn Salm narrated to us; ʿUmar ibn Muḥammad al-Jawharī narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Athram narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal narrated to us; Hushaym narrated to us; Ḥumayd informed us; Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; I heard Anas ibn Mālik say:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pronouncing the talbiyah for Hajj.”
