Ibn Nuqtah said: “He transmitted the Muʿjam of Ibn al-Muqriʾ and the Musnad of Abū Ḥanīfah—both compiled by Ibn al-Muqriʾ—and Saʿīd ibn Abī al-Rajāʾ al-Ṣayrafī related these two books from him.”
I add: Ismāʿīl ibn al-Ikhshīd al-Sarrāj also narrated from him Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭaḥāwī’s Tahdhīb al-Āthār (1), having heard it directly from Ibn al-Muqriʾ. Moreover, al-Silafī transmitted from a number of al-Tāni’s students.
He died in Dhū al-Ḥijjah of the year 450 AH.

(2) Ibn Khallikan states that the nisba “al-Nimri” is pronounced with a fatha on both the nun and the mim, followed by a ra; it derives from the tribe of al-Namr b. Qasit, whose name is normally read with a kasra on the mim, but the vowel is shifted to a fatha only in the nisba. This is a large and well-known Arab tribe.
