41 – al-Qudaʿī, Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Salāmah ibn Jaʿfar
The jurist, eminent scholar, and magistrate, Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Salāmah ibn Jaʿfar ibn ʿAlī al-Qudaʿī, an Egyptian Shāfiʿī who served as chief judge of Egypt and authored the book al-Shihāb (2) in both its abridged (without isnad) and full musnad forms.
He studied under: Abū Muslim Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Kātib; Aḥmad ibn Tharthāl (3); Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Jahḍam; Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-Jīzī; Abū Muḥammad ibn al-Naḥḥās al-Mālikī; and several others.
Related from him were: Abū Naṣr ibn Mākūlā, Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥumaydī, and Abū Saʿd ʿAbd

(2) Its full title is Shihab al-Akhbar fi al-hikam wa-l-amthal wa-l-adab min al-ahadith al-nabawiyya (“The Meteor of Reports: Proverbs, Maxims and Etiquette Drawn from the Prophetic Hadiths”). At the opening the author states: “In this book I have collected from the words of the Messenger of Allah one thousand wise sayings concerning counsel, etiquette, exhortation and proverbs, arranging them consecutively without chains of transmission and grouping them according to similarity of wording. I then added two hundred further sayings, concluded the work with supplications transmitted from him, and placed all the isnads in a separate book that may be consulted for them.” He also authored Musnad al-Shihab, which gathers the chains of transmission for everything contained in Shihab. Shaykh Hamdi Abd al-Majid al-Salafi has edited and documented the hadiths; it is being published by Muassasat al-Risala in three volumes.

قال في أوله: " جمعت كتابي هذا مما سمعته من حديث رسول الله ﷺ ألف كلمة من الحكمة في الوصايا والآداب والمواعظ والامثال، وجعلتها مسرودة يتلو بعضها بعضا، محذوفة الأسانيد مبوبة أبوابا على حسب تقارب الألفاظ، ثم زدت مئتي كلمة، وختمت الكتاب بأدعية مروية عنه ﵊، وأفردت الأسانيد جميعها كتابا يرجع في معرفتها إليه " وله " مسند الشهاب " جمع فيه أسانيد ما تضمنه كتاب الشهاب، وقد قام بتحقيقه، وتخريج أحاديثه الشيخ الفاضل حمدي عبد المجيد السلفي، وتتولى نشره مؤسسة الرسالة، ويقع في ثلاثة مجلدات.
