Ibn Tāhir said in his book al-Ḍuʿafāʾ (1): “They censure him for transmitting the book al-Lumaʿ from Abū Naṣr al-Sarrāj, and he used to claim that he had heard Muḥammad ibn Aslam’s collection of Forty Ḥadith from Zāhir al-Sarkhasī.”
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Daqqāq said: “Al-ʿAyyār narrated from Bishr ibn Aḥmad, and how ill-advised that was! By narrating from him he spoiled his otherwise sound auditions.”
ʿAbd al-Ghāfir said: “Al-ʿAyyār died in Ghazna in Rabīʿ al-Awwal of the year 457 AH.”
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Salām and Abū al-Faḍl ibn ʿAsākir related to us from ʿAbd al-Muʿizz ibn Muḥammad, who said: al-Fuḍaylī Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl informed us; he said: Saʿīd ibn Muḥammad al-ʿAyyār informed us; he said: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣayrafī informed us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq narrated to us; he said: Qutaybah narrated to us; he said: al-Layth narrated to us, from Ibn Shihāb, from Ibn al-Musayyab, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷻ ruled that, for the miscarried fetus of a woman from Banū Lihyān that was delivered lifeless, the compensation is a ghurra—that is, a slave, male or female. Later the woman upon whom the judgment had been passed died, and the Messenger of Allah ﷻ decreed that her estate should go to her children and her husband, while the blood-money was to be borne by her agnates.”
This ḥadith was recorded by al-Bukhārī, Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, and al-Nasāʾī through the narration of Qutaybah (2).
