Chapter: On his ﷺ unique distinctions and his informing the Ummah of them, in obedience to the Almighty’s words: wa-amma bi-niʿmati rabbika fa-ḥaddith—“And as for the favor of your Lord, proclaim it” (Q 93:11).
I read to Abū’l-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad al-Hāshimī in Alexandria. He said: Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar in Baghdad informs you that Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Hāshimī—in 551 AH—told us, saying: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Shāfiʿī told us, saying: Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm al-ʿAbqasī told us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dīblī—in 321 AH—narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn Abī al-Azhar narrated to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dīnār reported from Abū Ṣāliḥ al-Sammān, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“My likeness in relation to the prophets before me is that of a man who built a house, perfected and adorned it, yet left one brick missing in a corner. People walked around it, marvelled at its beauty, and said, ‘Why has this brick not been put in place?’ I am that brick, and I am the seal of the prophets.” ﷺ
Al-Bukhārī also recorded it—al-Bukhārī from Qutaybah, from Ismāʿīl.
Al-Zuhrī related, from Ibn al-Musayyib and Abū Salamah, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I have been aided by awe, granted concise speech, and while I was sleeping the keys to the treasuries of the earth were brought to me and placed before me.” Muslim and al-Bukhārī both narrated this ḥadīth.
