Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Dhuhlī narrated to us; he said: Yazīd ibn Hārūn related to us, from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind, from Makḥūl, from Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah has laid down obligatory duties, so do not neglect them; He has set limits, so do not overstep them; He has forbidden certain matters, so do not violate them; and He has remained silent about other things as a mercy to you, not out of forgetfulness—so do not probe into them.” (1)

The shaykh, a long-lived elder, Abū al-Ḥasan al-Tamīmī, an Egyptian cloth-merchant.
He was among the narrators who transmitted extensively from al-Ḥasan ibn Rashīq.
In 439 AH he granted Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Khaṭṭāb al-Rāzī authorization for his narrations.
He said, “This is the authenticated material I possess from him through direct hearing:
• the copy of Saʿīd ibn Abī Maryam from Yaḥyā ibn Ayyūb—a large section which Ibn Rashīq reported from Aḥmad ibn Ḥammād al-Tujībī, Ibn Zughbah, from him;
• the copy of Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd, as narrated by Ibn Rashīq from Ibn Abī al-Sawwār, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from him;
• the second part of al-Nasāʾī’s Musnad of Mālik, transmitted by Ibn Rashīq from him;
• the third of that work, and the fourth part which is al-Dāraquṭnī’s selected edition based on Ibn Rashīq;
• the Book of Divorce from al-Nasāʾī’s Sunan;
• the section on inheritance (al-farāʾiḍ) from the Muwaṭṭaʾ, in the narration of Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr from Mālik."
