Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

ʿĀbid al-Maʿāfirī, the Cordoban.
He performed the pilgrimage, pursued learning, and narrated from Abū Bakr al-Muhandis, Abū Muḥammad ibn Abī Zayd, Abū ʿAbd Allah ibn Mufarrij, ʿAbbās ibn Aṣbagh, Khalaf ibn al-Qāsim, and several others.
They said: He was reliable, devoted to the transmitted reports, virtuous, righteous, and humble. He was invited to sit on the Consultative Council but refused (1).
Those who transmitted from him include Abū Marwān al-Ṭubnī; Abū Muḥammad ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAttāb; his father Muḥammad; Muḥammad ibn al-Faraj al-Ṭallāʿī; and others.
It was also said that Abū Muḥammad’s transmission from him was merely by license, and the scholars of the Maghrib are rather lenient in the way they use that designation.
He passed away in Jumādā al-Ūlā of the year 439 AH, at the age of eighty-plus years.
Among those who died that same year were: the ḥadith scholar ʿAlī ibn Munīr (2) ibn Aḥmad al-Khallāl, the legal witness in Egypt; the learned ḥadith scholar Abū al-Faraj al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī al-Ṭanājīrī (3) in Baghdad; and the supervisor of the congregational mosque in Damascus, Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Shawāsh al-Kinānī.

412 – al-Ṣaymarī, al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad al-Ḥanafī *
The judge and erudite scholar, Abū ʿAbd Allah al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad
