from Abū al-Khayr ibn Abī ʿImrān, a disciple of al-Kushmīhānī, and you hold no other material transmitted from him besides that.”
I add: After that year no further report is heard of Abū Maktūm, and the date of his death was never recorded for us.
Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ dated the death of Abū Dharr to 435 AH, but the correct date is 404 AH. Abū ʿAlī ibn Sukkara said that he died shortly after Shawwāl.
ʿAbd al-Ḥāfiẓ ibn Badrān informed us; Aḥmad ibn Ṭāwūs (in 617 AH) informed us; Ḥamzah ibn Karrūs informed us; the jurist Naṣr ibn Ibrāhīm informed us; Abū Dharr ʿAbd ibn Aḥmad, by written transmission, informed us; that Bishr ibn Muḥammad al-Muzanī dictated to them, saying: al-Ḥusayn ibn Idrīs narrated to us; al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd al-Dimashqī narrated to us; al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd narrated to us; Ibn Thawbān, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Ibn ʿUmar, who related that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed, Paradise is adorned for Ramadan from the start of the year. When the first day of Ramadan arrives, a wind blows from beneath the Throne, causing the leaves of Paradise to rustle around the wide-eyed maidens, who then say: ‘Our Lord, grant us spouses from among Your servants whose eyes will find delight in us and in whom our eyes will find delight.’ ⦗1⦘”
The jurist Naṣr remarked: “This tradition is singular to al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd al-ʿAnsī, and the scholars have deemed him unreliable.” ⦗2⦘
