Among those who related from him by written authorization were Abū ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb, Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Yūsufī, and Abū ʿAbd Allāh Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Ghalbūn al-Khawlānī, d. 508 AH.
Al-Musallam ibn Muḥammad informed us in his book, through al-Qāsim ibn ʿAlī, who said: My father informed us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad al-Jarbādhqānī (2) informed us in Herat. (ḥā)
Abū al-Ḥasan al-Gharrāfī also informed us; ʿAlī ibn Rūzbah informed us in Baghdad; Abū al-Waqt al-Sijzī informed us. They both said:
Abū Ismāʿīl ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Anṣārī informed us, saying: “ʿAbd ibn Aḥmad al-Sammāk, the ḥāfiẓ, was reliable though some criticized his doctrinal views. I heard from him a single ḥadith—from Shaybān ibn Muḥammad al-Ḍubaʿī, from Abū Khalīfah, from ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī—the lengthy ḥadith of Jābir concerning the ḥajj (3). He said to me: ‘Recite it to me repeatedly until you grow accustomed to reading ḥadith; it is the very first ḥadith…’”
