the Nishapuri jurist, shaykh of the Ḥanafīs, their acknowledged head, and the judge of Nishapur.
He heard ḥadīth from Abū ʿAmr ibn Nujayd, Bishr ibn Aḥmad, and ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Bakkāʾī.
Among those who narrated from him were al-Khaṭīb and Qāḍī Ṣāʿid ibn Sayyār.
We ourselves heard a fascicle of his narrations from Abū Naṣr al-Mizzī, transmitted from the latter’s grandfather.
He was born in 343 AH, and he died in Dhū’l-Ḥijjah 431 AH—though another report puts his death in 432 AH.
330 – Sayyār ibn Yaḥyā ibn Muḥammad ibn Idrīs, the eminent scholar and judge, Abū ʿAmr al-Kinānī al-Harawī, a Ḥanafī.
He studied under Abū ʿĀṣim Maḥbūb ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥākim and a number of others.
His transmitters include his two sons: Qāḍī Abū al-ʿAlāʾ Ṣāʿid and Qāḍī Abū al-Fatḥ Naṣr.
He died in 430 AH. His son Abū al-Fatḥ succeeded him until he was wrongfully killed in 446 AH, whereupon his brother took over and his tenure lasted many years thereafter.
