He passed away in Muḥarram of the year 422 AH.
Among those who transmitted from him was Abū Muṭīʿ Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid al-Ṣaḥḥāf.
Abū al-Rabīʿ Sulaymān ibn Qudāmah and his brother Dāwūd, together with ʿĪsā ibn Abī Muḥammad and Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, informed us in 700 AH; likewise Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad, Muḥammad ibn Ḥamzah, and Hadiyyah bint ʿAlī. They said:
“Jaʿfar ibn ʿAlī related to us, and Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣawwāf and Ibn Muʾmin also related, saying:
‘ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad told us, saying:
“Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār in Iṣfahān informed us:
‘ʿAlī ibn ʿAbdkuwayh narrated to us in 420 AH; ʿUmar ibn Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Baghdādī narrated to us in Basra in 357 AH; al-Ḥārith ibn Abī Usāmah narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us from Suhayl, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘When Allah loves a servant, He calls Gabriel and says: “O Gabriel, I love so-and-so, so love him.” Gabriel then loves him and proclaims in the heavens: “Indeed, Allah loves so-and-so; therefore love him.” The inhabitants of heaven then love him, and thereafter acceptance is granted for him on earth …’ — the ḥadīth (1).”’
He also mentioned a similar wording regarding hatred.
