and Abu al-Qasim ibn Abi al-ʿAlaʾ al-Masisi, the chief Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Thaqafi, Qadi Abu al-Hasan al-Khilaʿi, and others.
I myself obtained two fascicles of his hadith.
Abu Ishaq al-Habbal said: “Abu ʿAbd Allah ibn Nazif led the people in prayer in the Mosque of ʿAbd Allah for seventy years. He followed the Shafiʿi school and used to make the qunut. After him a man of the Maliki school led; the people came as usual, but when he omitted the qunut they left him and walked out, saying, ‘He does not know how to pray.’”
He died in Rabiʿ al-Akhir of the year 431 AH ⦗1⦘, having passed the age of ninety. May Allah have mercy on him.
315 – Al-Munqī, Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Talha al-Baghdadi
The imam and preacher Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Talha ibn Ahmad ibn Harun al-Baghdadi, known as al-Munqī—meaning “the sifter.”
He heard hadith from Abu Jaʿfar ibn Burayh ⦗2⦘, ʿAbd al-Samad al-Tasti, and Abu Bakr al-Najjād.
Among those who narrated from him were Abu Bakr al-Khatib, Abu al-Khattab ibn al-Batr, and a group of others.
Al-Khatib ⦗3⦘ said: “He was trustworthy and discreet.” He died in Dhu al-Hijjah of the year 420 AH. May Allah have mercy on him.
