He died in 428 AH; others said in 427 AH. Al-Khaṭīb relates through an intermediary on his authority.
309 – Ibn Dust: ʿUthmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Baghdādī *
The shaykh, reliable and authoritative transmitter, Abū ʿAmr ʿUthmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf ibn Dust al-Baghdādī, known as al-ʿAllāf (“the fodder-seller”).
His father narrated from Abū al-Qāsim al-Baghawī and died in the early 380s AH.
Those who transmitted from him include Ibn al-Muhtadī bi-llāh in his Mashyakha and a group of others.
Abū ʿAmr—his son—heard from Abū Bakr al-Najjād, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Isḥāq al-Khurasānī, ʿUmar ibn Salamah al-Khuttulī, and Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Shāfiʿī; from this last teacher he narrated the Muwaṭṭaʾ as transmitted by al-Qaʿnabī.
Al-Khaṭīb said, “I wrote from him, and he was truthful.”
He passed away in Ṣafar 428 AH. (1)
I (the author) say: he was close to ninety.
Among those who reported from him are Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Yūsufī, Abū al-Faḍl ibn Khayrūn, ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn ʿUlwān, Thābit ibn Bundār, and others.
