Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

which Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah had dispatched to him when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Badr.

He ﷺ likewise possessed Dhāt al-Wishāḥ, also called al-Muwashshaḥah; Dhāt al-Ḥawāshī; and two coats of mail taken from Banū Qaynuqāʿ, namely al-Saghadiyyah and Fiḍḍah. Al-Saghadiyyah had once belonged to ʿUkayr the Qaynuqāʿī; it is said to have been the very armour David (upon him be peace) wore when he slew Goliath.

He also owned a coat of mail named al-Batrāʾ, and another called al-Kharnq—the word kharnq denotes a young hare. On the Day of Uḥud he wore two coats of mail, Dhāt al-Fuḍūl and Fiḍḍah, while on the day of Khaybar he was clad in Dhāt al-Fuḍūl and al-Saghadiyyah.

The Prophet ﷺ passed away with his coat of mail pledged for thirty ṣāʿs of barley, which he had taken as food for his family.

ʿUbayṣ ibn Marḥūm al-ʿAṭṭār said: “Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from his father, who said: ‘The coat of mail of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had two silver rings at the chest and two at the back.’ Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī added, ‘I put it on and its hem dragged along the ground.’”

Our teacher further said: He ﷺ owned five bows—three taken from the weapons of Banū Qaynuqāʿ, one called al-Zawrāʾ, and one called al-Katūm. His quiver was known as al-Kāfūr.

He had a belt of tanned leather with three silver buckles; a shield named al-Zallūq, so called because weapons would slide off it; another shield known as al-ʿUnuq; and a shield bearing the image of an eagle—or perhaps a ram—that had been presented to him. He placed his hand upon it, whereupon Allah caused the image to disappear.

He also obtained three lances from the arms of Banū Qaynuqāʿ, and he owned a lance called:
