He [al-Khaṭīb] also said, “I heard al-Ṣūrī say, ‘I have not seen in Baghdad anyone more accomplished than al-Nuʿaymī. He united expertise in hadith, theology, and literature, and he had studied some of the Shāfiʿī fiqh.’
He went on, “Al-Barqānī used to say, ‘He is complete in every respect, were it not for a trace of arrogance in him.’ (1)
Al-Khaṭīb related, ‘Al-Azhari told me that al-Nuʿaymī fabricated, at Ibn al-Muẓaffar’s expense, a hadith he attributed to Shuʿbah. When the hadith scholars caught on to the matter, al-Nuʿaymī left Baghdad and stayed away until Ibn al-Muẓaffar died and those who knew the story had also passed on. Only then did he return to Baghdad.’ (2)
Al-Nuʿaymī died in his eighties, in the year 423 AH.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘The circumambulation of the House and the running [between Ṣafā and Marwah] were only instituted to establish the remembrance of Allah.’ (3)
