- Al-Jawbarī, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā*
The shaykh, Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Yāsir al-Tamīmī, from Damascus, known as al-Jawbarī.
He received hadith from Ibn Abī al-ʿAqb, Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Marwān, Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Sinān, and a number of others.
Those who narrated from him include: al-Qāsim al-Ḥinnāʾī, Ḥaydara al-Mālikī, Saʿd al-Zanjānī, Abū al-Qāsim ibn Abī al-ʿAlāʾ, and al-Kattānī.
It was said of him: “He could neither read nor write; his father took him to hear hadith and verified them for him. He nevertheless excelled in memorizing the texts. I found his audition in Sahīḥ al-Bukhārī, and he said to me, ‘My father made me hear a great deal, but I will not relate anything to you until I know your view concerning Muʿāwiyah.’”
I replied, “He is a Companion of the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him,” and I invoked mercy for him. Thereupon he produced all of his father’s notebooks for me and then said:
He died in Ṣafar of the year 425 AH.
