His birth took place in the year 336 AH.
Al-Khaṭīb (1) said: “We wrote down narrations from him, and he was trustworthy, except that his audition of certain material he transmitted from al-Najjād showed some inconsistency. He died in Shawwāl of the year 423 AH.”
271 – ʿAṭiyyah ibn Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh, Abū Muḥammad al-Andalusī
The imām, ḥāfiẓ, eminent exemplar, and leading shaykh of his day—Abū Muḥammad al-Andalusī, al-Qafṣī, the Sufi.
He heard hadith from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Bājī and a number of others in al-Andalus; from the Qāḍī of Adana, ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn, in Egypt; from Zāhir ibn Aḥmad in Sarakhs; from Ibn Firās in Mecca; and from Ismāʿīl ibn Ḥājib al-Kushānī (2) beyond the river in Transoxiana.
He recited the Qur’an in al-Andalus to Ibn Bishr al-Anṭākī, and in Egypt to Abū Aḥmad al-Sāmarrī. He copied a vast number of books while in Syria, Iraq, Khurāsān, and Bukhara.
He later settled for a time in Nīshāpūr, advancing solely on the footing of trust in Allah; he was granted wide acceptance, and his followers multiplied.
