He was born in 329 AH.
He received ḥadīth from Ismāʿīl b. Muḥammad al-Ṣaffār, Abū Jaʿfar b. al-Bakhtarī, ʿUmar b. al-Ḥasan al-Ushnānī, ʿUthmān b. al-Sammāk, Abū Bakr al-Najjād, Jaʿfar al-Khuldī, and others.
He was the last surviving disciple of Ibn al-Bakhtarī and al-Ṣaffār.
Among those who transmitted from him were al-Khaṭīb, ʿAlī b. Ṭāhir al-Mawṣilī, Abū al-Qāsim b. Abī al-ʿAlāʾ al-Miṣṣīṣī, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Kattānī, al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī b. al-Busrī, ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn al-Rabaʿī, ʿAbd al-Samīʿ b. ʿAlī al-Hāshimī, Abū Tammām Hibat Allāh b. Muḥammad, Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. ʿAlī al-Ṭuraythīthī, Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Karīm b. Khushaysh, Abū al-Qāsim b. Bayān al-Razzāz, and many others.
Al-Khaṭīb said: “He was truthful. Abū al-Qāsim al-Lalakāʾī spoke well of him. His conduct was exemplary; he was intimately attached to knowledge and possessed some familiarity with fiqh according to the Iraqi school.”
He died in Rabīʿ al-Awwal, and we recorded ḥadīth from him. I was informed that he did not even have a shroud (1).
I say: He passed away in 419 AH.
