so I handed it over to him when he declined the gift, whereupon he put it on, and I saw it on him while he was standing on the pulpit; that day I had never seen anyone look finer than he did in it. He then passed it on to Usāma, and Ḥakīm later saw the garment on Usāma and said, “Usāma, are you wearing the suit of Dhū Yazan?” Usāma replied, “Yes, by Allah—I am better than Dhū Yazan, and my father is better than his.” I later traveled to Mecca, and the people there were delighted by Usāma’s remark.
ʿAwn ibn Abī Juḥayfah narrated from his father, who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ at al-Abṭaḥ while he was in a red tent. He came out wearing a red suit, and it is as though I can still see the sheen of his shins. Its chain of transmission is sound.
Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated from Ḥajjāj, from Abū Jaʿfar, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wear his red cloak on the two festivals and on Fridays. Hushaym transmitted it from Ḥajjāj, from Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, but in mursal form.
ʿUbayd Allah ibn Iyād narrated from his father, from Abū Rimthah, who said: I saw the Prophet ﷺ wearing two green cloaks. Its chain of transmission is sound.
