I have not seen anyone upon whom the title of ḥāfiẓ was bestowed except two men: Abū Nuʿaym and Abū Ḥāzim al-ʿAbduwiyy.⦗1⦘
I (the author) add: His father had him listen to Abū Bakr al-Ṣibghī and Ḥāmid al-Raffāʾ.
The ḥāfiẓ Abū Ṣāliḥ the muʾadhdhin said: “I heard the ḥāfiẓ Abū Ḥāzim say, ‘With my own hand I copied from ten of my teachers ten thousand fascicles, a thousand from each.’⦗2⦘”
Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb also said: “Abū Ḥāzim was trustworthy and truthful, a ḥāfiẓ who was thoroughly knowledgeable.”⦗3⦘

Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ṭūsī said: “I saw in the handwriting of Zāhir ibn Ṭāhir that he wrote:
Masʿūd ibn Nāṣir penned a note in which he said:
I found with Masʿūd ibn ʿAlī ibn Muʿādh al-Sijzī, in the handwriting of al-Ḥākim Abū ʿAbd Allāh, the following statement:
‘We convened in the year 381 AH and spoke about the liars of Nīshāpūr and what had become clear to us regarding their discredit. We recorded the matter for reference. Among those he mentioned were Abū Bakr al-Kisāʾī, Abū Bakr al-Ṭarāzī, Abū Ḥāzim al-ʿAbduwiyy, and Abū al-Qāsim ibn Ḥabīb the exegete, and he said: “They are fabricators in transmission.”’
Masʿūd ibn ʿAlī added: ‘He summoned a number of witnesses who confirmed the statement with their own signatures.’”
