Professor Bilāl al-Mughīthī (1) informed us; Ibn Rawāj informed us; Abū Ṭāhir al-Silafī informed us; and Muḥammad and Aḥmad, the two sons of ʿAbd Allāh, informed us. They said:
“ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad dictated to us; Abū ʿAlī al-Ṣaḥḥāf narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Mahdī narrated to us; Thābit ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, reported that:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, ‘Kashr does not invalidate the prayer, but qarqara does.’ (2)
This ḥadith is munkar despite the apparent strength of its chain. What is astonishing is that al-Bukhārī transmitted from Thābit ibn Muḥammad the ascetic in his Ṣaḥīḥ (3), yet he also listed him in al-Ḍuʿafāʾ.
Abū Ḥātim said of him: ‘Truthful.’
