Through this same chain, Abū al-Ashʿath related to us—Fudayl ibn ʿIyāḍ related to us, from Manṣūr, from Mujāhid—concerning the verse, “the Day when they will be tried over the Fire” (Qur’an 51:13). He said, “They will be burned upon it and punished.” (1)
179 – al-Muzakkī, Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad
The shaykh, the imām, the trustworthy authority, the exemplar, the righteous—Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyā, son of the ḥadith scholar al-Muzakkī Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā al-Nīsābūrī—was the leading teacher of spiritual purification in his town.
He dictated traditions for a time with scrupulous piety and precision.
He was born in the early 330s AH.
He transmitted from: Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Aṣamm; Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Akhram; al-Ḥasan ibn Yaʿqūb al-Bukhārī; Abū Bakr ibn Isḥāq al-Ṣibghī; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdūs; several scholars of Nīshāpūr; Abū Sahl ibn Ziyād; Abū Bakr al-Najjād; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Isḥāq al-Khurāsānī; the judge Aḥmad ibn Kāmil; Aḥmad ibn ʿUthmān al-Adamī among the Baghdadis; Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī ibn Duḥaym; and others from Kūfa.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī al-Aṣbahānī selected narrations from him, and several fascicles of his ḥadith have reached us.
