Muḥammad ibn ʿImrān ibn Abī Laylā relates: My father told me, and Ibn Abī Laylā narrated from ʿĪsā, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Laylā, from his father, who said: “We were sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when Ḥasan came in and began rolling about on him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lifted the front of the child’s shirt and kissed his navel.”
Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī reported: Zamʿah ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb ibn Zamʿah, from Umm Salamah, that Abū Bakr set out as a merchant to Busrā one or two years before the Prophet ﷺ passed away. With him were Niʿmān and Suwaybiṭ ibn Ḥarmalah, both veterans of Badr. Suwaybiṭ was put in charge of their provisions. Niʿmān came to him and said, “Feed me.” Suwaybiṭ replied, “Not until Abū Bakr returns.” Niʿmān, who loved to joke, said, “Then I will sell you!” He went to some people and said, “Would you like to buy a slave from me? He is an eloquent fellow, so he may say, ‘I am a free man.’ If you are going to release him when he says that, leave him and do not ruin my sale.” They said, “No, we will buy him.” He sold Suwaybiṭ to them for ten young she-camels. Then he brought them to Suwaybiṭ and said, “Here he is.” Suwaybiṭ protested, “He is lying; I am a free man!” They replied, “He has already told us about you,” threw a rope and a turban around his neck, and led him off. When Abū Bakr returned they told him what had happened. He and some companions pursued them, returned the she-camels, and recovered Suwaybiṭ. The Prophet ﷺ and his Companions laughed about the incident for an entire year. This is a ḥasan (good) hadith.
Al-Aswad ibn ʿĀmir narrated: Ḥammād ibn Salamah related from Abū Jaʿfar al-Khaṭmī that a man known by the kunya Abū ʿAmrah once came to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet said to him, “O Umm ʿAmrah!” The man instantly put his hand to his private parts, whereupon the Prophet ﷺ said, “Enough!” He replied, “By Allah, I thought I had become a woman when you called me ‘O Umm ʿAmrah.’ ” The Prophet ﷺ said, “I am only a human being like you; I jest with you.” This is a mursal report.
ʿAbd al-Razzāq reported: Maʿmar related from Thābit, from Anas, that a Bedouin named Zāhir used to bring gifts to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the desert, and in return the Prophet ﷺ would outfit him. The Prophet ﷺ would say, “Zāhir is our desert-dweller, and we are his townsfolk.”
