The imam, ḥadith master, and meticulous scholar, Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Musa al-Shirazi, author of the work al-Alqab (1), which we possess in our audition.
He heard ḥadith from: Abu Bahr Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Barbahari; Abu Bakr al-Qatiʿi; ʿAli ibn Ahmad al-Miṣṣiṣī; Abu al-Qasim al-Tabarani; ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAdi; Abu Bakr al-Ismaʿili; Abu al-Shaykh; Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Sarraj al-Nisaburi; ʿAbd al-Wahid ibn al-Hasan al-Jundaysaburi; and Saʿid ibn al-Qasim ibn al-Alaʾ al-Muṭṭawʿi, whom he met in Taraz in the lands of the Turks. He also met Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Sabir in Bukhara, Usama ibn Zayd, the judge of Shiraz, and Ahmad ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman al-Kharaki in Basra.
He stayed for a time in Hamadhan, and among those who narrated from him were Muhammad ibn ʿIsa, Abu Muslim ibn Ghazw (2), Humayd ibn al-Maʾmun, Abu al-Faraj al-Bajali, and others.
Abu Yaʿla al-Khalili reported extensively from him, saying, “Ahmad ibn Abi Muslim al-Farisi, the ḥadith master, narrated to us.”
Jaʿfar al-Mustaghfiri said: “He had keen understanding and an excellent memory.”
The ḥadith master Shirawayh al-Daylami remarked: “He was trustworthy, truthful, and a ḥafiz, thoroughly proficient in this field.” He left us—meaning Hamadhan—in 404 AH.
