Ḥammād ibn Salamah likewise narrated—through Thābit—from Muṭarrif ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Shikhkhīr—from his father, who said: “I saw the Prophet ﷺ praying, and from his chest came a murmur like the bubbling of a cauldron, on account of his weeping.”
Abū Kuraib reported: Muʿāwiyah ibn Hishām told us—through Shaybān—from Abū Isḥāq—from ʿIkrimah—from Ibn ʿAbbās—that Abū Bakr once said, “Messenger of Allah, I see that you have gone gray.” He replied, “Sūrah Hūd, al-Wāqiʿah, al-Mursalāt, ʿAmma Yatasaʾalūn, and Idhā al-Shamsu Kuwwirat have turned my hair gray.”
As for his night vigil, his recitation, glorification, remembrance, fasting, pilgrimage, striving in Allah’s cause, fear of Him, tears, humility, gentleness, mercy toward the orphan and the needy, keeping the ties of kinship, conveying the message, and sincere counsel to the ummah—these are all recorded in the Sunan collections under their respective chapters of knowledge.
