years and a half; he was then removed from office in Ramadan of the year 394 AH and replaced by his cousin Abū al-Qāsim ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad. A grave incident subsequently arose between him and al-Ḥākim: at the beginning of 395 (1) AH he was beheaded and his body was burned.
ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz’s (2) standing rose exceedingly high; al-Ḥākim even had him ascend the pulpit with him on the day of the ʿĪd. He was resolute in passing judgments and suppressed the oppressors until he was deposed in Rajab of 398 AH and replaced by the judge Mālik ibn Saʿīd al-Fāriqī. Al-Ḥākim later had him executed—together with the commander Ḥusayn ibn Jawhar and a number of emirs, after a lengthy affair—in the year 401 (3) AH. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz lived forty-seven years.
