and the muʾadhdhin; Fāṭimah daughter of Abū ʿAlī al-Daqqāq; and many others besides them.
Al-Ḥākim said: “He was a man of lofty aspiration and manifest devotion. When asked to relate ḥadīth he would refuse, until at last I convened a dictation session for him and selected one thousand ḥadīth. A thousand inkwells were counted in his gathering. He was the younger of the two.
He heard ḥadīth from: Ibn Bilāl and Abū Bakr al-Qaṭṭān.
Narrated from him: al-Ḥākim, who said that he died in 393 AH. He left scholarly traces and was well known in Nīshābūr, living a little over seventy years.
I say: al-Ḥākim also said, “Abū ʿAlī narrated to us from his own audition—of the Ṣaḥīḥ—and he cited a ḥadīth.”
