from the coarse edge of his cloak. Then the Bedouin said, “O Muhammad, order that I be given some of Allah’s wealth that is with you.” The Prophet ﷺ turned toward him and laughed, and then ordered that he be given a gift. Agreed upon.
Ubayd Allah ibn Mūsā narrated—from Shaybān, from al-Aʿmash, from Thumāmah ibn ʿUqbah, from Zayd ibn Arqam—who said: “A man from the Anṣār used to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ feeling perfectly safe with him. Yet he worked a spell against the Prophet by tying knots and throwing them into a well, and that brought the Prophet ﷺ to the point of collapse. Two angels came to visit him and told him, ‘So-and-so has tied a charm for you; it is in the well of so-and-so. The water has turned yellow because of the strength of the spell.’ The Prophet ﷺ sent for it to be taken out; the water was indeed yellow. He untied the knots and then fell asleep, and after that I saw the man enter upon the Prophet ﷺ and never noticed the slightest change in the Prophet’s face toward him until the man died.”
Abū Nuʿaym reported: ʿImrān ibn Zayd Abū Yaḥyā al-Milāʾī told us—Zayd al-ʿAmā related from Anas—that “when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shook a man’s hand, he would not withdraw his hand until the other man withdrew his; and if someone faced him, he would not turn his face away until that person turned away. Nor was he ever seen putting his knees out in front of anyone seated with him.” Both reports were recorded by al-Fasawī in his History.
Mubārak ibn Faḍālah narrated—from Thābit, from Anas: “Never did I see a man draw his ear close to the Prophet’s ear and the Prophet pull his head away; rather, it was the man who moved back first. Nor did I ever see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ take hold of a man’s hand and release it until the man himself let go.” Recorded by Abū Dāwūd.
Sulaymān ibn Yasār related from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ….”
