from al-Suddī, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, who related that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Faith puts a curb on treachery; a believer does not perpetrate a treacherous attack.” (1)
He is also the one who composed the following lines:
“Exile is not simply the distance that sunders a man …
By Allah, it is the lack of kindred souls. (2)
I am a stranger amid Bust and its people …
though my household and my family dwell therein.” (3)
13 – Ibn Mandah, Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq ibn Muḥammad

(1) Asbat is known for frequent mistakes, and al-Suddi’s father—his name is Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Karima—is of unknown status, whereas the remaining transmitters are trustworthy. The report is found in Sunan Abi Dawud (no. 2769), Book of Jihad, chapter “When the enemy is attacked unawares.” Al-Hakim also recorded it, 4/352, through Ibrahim b. Ishaq al-Zuhri who said, “Asbat narrated to us,” with this same chain. It has a supporting narration from al-Zubayr b. al-Awwam in Musnad Ahmad (1426, 1427, 1433); all its transmitters are reliable except that al-Hasan relates it with the defect of ʿanʿanah. A second corroboration comes from Muawiya, likewise in Ahmad 4/92 and al-Hakim 4/353; its chain includes Ali b. Zayd b. Judan, who is weak, while the rest are trustworthy. With these two witnesses the hadith is sound.

عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ:
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ: (الإِيْمَانُ قَيَّدَ الفَتْكَ، لاَ يَفْتِكُ مُؤْمِنٌ (١)) .
وَهُوَ القَائِلُ:
وَمَا غُرْبَةُ (٢) الإِنسَانِ فِي شُقَّةِ النَّوَى ... وَلَكنّهَا وَاللهِ فِي عَدَمِ الشَّكْلِ
وَإِنِّيْ غَرِيْبٌ بَيْنَ بُسْتٍ وَأَهْلِهَا ... وَإِنْ كَانَ فِيْهَا أُسرتِي وَبِهَا أَهْلِي (٣)

الإِمَامُ، الحَافِظُ، الجَوَّالُ، مُحَدِّثُ الإِسْلاَم، أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدُ ابْنُ المُحَدِّثِ أَبِي يَعْقُوْبَ إِسْحَاقَ ابْنِ الحَافِظِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ مُحَمَّدِ بنِ يَحْيَى بنِ
(١) أسباط كثير الخطأ، ووالد السدي - واسمه عبد الرحمن بن أبي كريمة - مجهول الحال، وباقي رجاله ثقات، وهو في سنن أبي داود (٢٧٦٩) في الجهاد: باب في العدو يؤتى على غرة، وأخرجه الحاكم ٤ / ٣٥٢ من طريق إبراهيم بن إسحاق الزهري، حدثنا أسباط بهذا الإسناد، وله شاهد من حديث الزبير بن العوام عند احمد (١٤٢٦) و (١٤٢٧) و (١٤٣٣) ورجاله ثقات إلا أن فيه عنعنة الحسن، وآخر من حديث معاوية عند أحمد أيضا ٤ / ٩٢، والحاكم ٤ / ٣٥٣، وفي سنده علي بن زيد بن جدعان وهو ضعيف، وباقي رجاله ثقات، فالحديث قوي بشاهديه.
