, al-Muṭbaqī, and the ḥāfiẓ Abū Saʿīd ibn Yūnus, together with their peers.
Those who narrated from him include ʿAbd al-Ghanī ibn Saʿīd, Aḥmad ibn Qudayd, ʿUmar ibn Khaḍr al-Thamanīnī, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Azdī, and others.
Abū Isḥāq al-Ḥabbāl said: “Abū al-Fatḥ died on the last day of Dhuʾl-Ḥijja in the year 378 AH. He was a ḥāfiẓ who transmitted copiously.”
I (the author) say: I think he was somewhat over seventy years old.
I have read, in the handwriting of Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Ṣūrī: Ibn Salāma informed me, on the authority of Ibn Bawsh, from Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār, from him, who said:
“Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Azdī informed us; al-Fatḥ ibn Masrūr narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Aḥmad, the ḥāfiẓ, informed us; ʿAbdullāh ibn Wuhayb al-Ghazzī narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Mawhib narrated to us; al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Faḍāla narrated to us; from ʿAyyāsh ibn ʿAbbās; from ʿImrān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Qurashī; from Abū Khirāsh al-Hudhalī, who heard Faḍāla ibn ʿUbayd—may Allah be pleased with him—say:
‘Whoever is turned back by superstitious omens has thereby committed shirk.’ (1)
