Among those who transmitted from him were: the ḥāfiẓ Abū Dharr al-Harawī; the ḥāfiẓ Abū Yaʿqūb Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm al-Qarrāb; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Ṣamad al-Turābī al-Marwazī; ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Harawī; Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn Maḥmūd; Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad al-Dāʾūdī; and others.
Abū Dharr said, “I read to him (1); he is reliable, a man with first-rate autograph collections.”
I add: He authored a separate fascicle in which he enumerated the chapters of the Ṣaḥīḥ and the number of hadiths contained in each chapter. Shaykh Muḥyī al-Dīn al-Nawawī reproduced it at the beginning of his commentary on Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī.
His transmission was still being reported with a lofty chain in 730 AH by Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Ḥajjār.
He was born in 293 AH.
Abū Yaʿqūb al-Qarrāb said: “He died with two nights remaining of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in 381 AH.”
