He also said, “He was trustworthy and his supplication was answered; I have never met anyone like him in that regard.” (1)
Musallam ibn Muḥammad informed me; al-Kindī informed us; al-Shaybānī informed us; Abū Bakr al-Khaṭīb reported to us; ʿAbd al-Ghaffār al-Urmawī narrated to me; Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Ḥumayd narrated to me; I heard Abū Dharr al-Harawī say:
“I was with Abū al-Fatḥ ibn al-Qawwās when he produced a fascicle that a mouse had gnawed. He called upon Allah against the mouse that had chewed it, and a mouse immediately dropped down, shook violently, and died.”
Abū al-Fatḥ – may Allah have mercy on him – related that he never wrote from the prompter’s diction but only from the shaykh himself. Someone is reported to have said, “I saw the Prophet ﷺ declaring, ‘Whoever wishes to hear as though he were listening directly from me, let him listen the way Abū al-Fatḥ al-Qawwās listens.’ ”
Musallam ibn ʿAllān related to us in his book; Zayd ibn al-Ḥasan related to us; ʿAbd Allah ibn Aḥmad al-Yūsufī informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-ʿAbbāsī dictated to us; Yūsuf ibn ʿUmar al-Qawwās dictated, saying: “It was read before Abū al-Qāsim ibn Bint Manīʿ while I was listening: Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd narrated to you, reporting from Ibn al-Mubārak, from Harmalah ibn Abī ʿImrān (2), from Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb, from Marthad ibn ʿAbd Allah, from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir that the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘The believer will be in the shade of his charity on the Day of Resurrection.’ ” (3)
