348 – Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr ibn Thābit, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Shīrāzī *
Ibn Thābit, the roving ḥāfiẓ and leading scholar, Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Shīrāzī. He is not to be confused with Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr al-Ṭūsī, who was mentioned a moment ago.
He transmitted from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar ibn Fāris, al-Qāsim ibn al-Qāsim al-Siyyarī, Abū al-Qāsim al-Ṭabarānī, Abū Muḥammad al-Rāmahurmuzī, and many others.
Those who narrated from him include Abū Naṣr ibn al-Ismāʿīlī, al-Ḥākim, Tammām al-Rāzī, and others.
Al-Ḥākim said: “He gathered a body of hadith that no one else collected, and in Shīrāz he enjoyed such acceptance that his example became proverbial.”
Al-Dāraqutnī said: “While I was in Egypt, this Shīrāzī introduced into the country certain hadiths and ascribed them to its shaykhs.”
Yaḥyā ibn Mandah countered: “No—the one who did that was another person who had the same name as this man.”
Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr al-Shīrāzī himself said: “I wrote down three hundred thousand hadiths from al-Ṭabarānī.”
