Shaykh of Marw and its senior judge, Abū al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad ibn Mihrān al-Marwazī al-Ḥaddādī.
He heard (ḥadith) from: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maḥmūd al-Marwazī al-Saʿdī; Abū Yazīd, the transmitter of the Commentary of Isḥāq; Ḥammād ibn Aḥmad the judge; and their contemporaries.
Al-Ḥākim said: “He was the shaykh of the people of Marw in hadith, jurisprudence, Sufism, and the issuing of legal verdicts.”
He died in mid-Ṣafar of the year 388 AH, having earlier served as judge of Nishapur sometime before 350 AH.
I (the author) say: Al-Ḥākim and the scholars of Marw narrated from him, and he reached his nineties.
Muḥyī al-Sunnah (al-Baghawī) in Maʿālim al-Tanzīl also cites material transmitted through the disciples of al-Ḥākim, namely Abū al-Faḍl al-Ḥaddādī.
