al-Qurṭubī; the Damascene traditionist, Imām Abū Sulaymān Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad ibn Zabr al-Rabaʿī; Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn al-Naḍr ibn al-Naḥḥās al-Mawṣilī—the transmitter of Abū Yaʿlā’s Muʿjam on his authority; and the long-lived Abū Bakr Hilāl ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad al-Baṣrī, the nephew of Hilāl al-Raʾy and the last person to narrate from al-Kajjī.
Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad al-Ruʿaynī said: “Ibn al-Muẓaffar came to us in Egypt. He was cross-eyed and bore a scar. He attended the session of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar al-Qazwīnī, who told him, ‘What you keep reading to us is already abundant in Iraq; what we want is the ḥadith of Egypt.’ That remark marked the beginning of al-Qazwīnī’s circulation of the ḥadith of ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith. Matters then developed as they did, with people accusing him in large numbers, until Abū al-Ḥasan al-Dāraqutnī said, ‘Al-Qazwīnī forged more than one hundred ḥadiths in favour of ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith.’”
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muḥammad informed us; ʿUmar ibn Ṭabarzad informed us; Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan informed us; al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī informed us; Muḥammad ibn al-Muẓaffar informed us; Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Bayān narrated to us; Hushaym narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, from ʿAdī ibn Thābit, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Whoever hears the call to prayer and does not respond, his prayer is of no account.” (1)
This is a singular ḥadith; the wording “unless he has an excuse” is not mentioned in it.
