When he passed away, al-Ṣāḥib Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbbād (1) composed an elegy for him, saying:
“They said, ‘The Shaykh Abū Aḥmad is gone …’
and they bewailed him with every manner of lament.
I said, ‘What is the loss of a single shaykh who has departed? …
Nay, it is the loss of the many branches of letters.’
Abū Ḥakīm Aḥmad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn Faḍlān al-ʿAskarī, the linguist, recorded that Abū Aḥmad died on Friday, the seventh of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year 382 AH.
I say: I believe he had surpassed ninety years of age.
302 – al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd, Abū ʿAlī al-Kindī *
His namesake and contemporary—the jurist, senior transmitter (musnid) and ḥadīth scholar—Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd al-Kindī, from Ḥimṣ, who later resided in Baʿlabakk.
He narrated from: Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Ḥalabī and Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Jawṣā.
Those who transmitted from him include: al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ashʿath al-Manbijī, ʿAlī ibn Aḥmad al-Rabaʿī, and others.
A small collection of his transmissions has reached me.
I have not discovered the date of his death, but he was narrating in 388 AH.
303 – al-Karābīsī, Abū Saʿīd Muḥammad ibn Bishr ibn al-ʿAbbās **
